When Homer begins telling the story he starts in king Alcinous's Cort on the island of Phaeancia. He uses flashbacks to tell what happened in the first part of the story. Odysseus has washed up on shore of the island. He is lying on the beach, all alone, covered in leaves trying to keep warm. For three days, Poseidon has been messing with Odysseus. Some women who work for the king come down to discover Odysseus. They take him into KIng Alcinous's Court. They feed him, cloth him, and bathe him. He then joins them for festivities. The king asks him who he is but Odysseus denies to respond but instead, he ask one of the performers to sing the song of Troy. The performers sung about the great battle and how great was the hero Odysseus. Odysseus starts to cry and performers ask why. Odysseus' respond was that they were singing the story of his life. They ask him where he ha been fro the past ten years. Odysseus jumps into great detail about how he ha spent the 10 years after the fall of Troy. The Phaeacians bring Odysseus back home to Ithaka
