He is reliable enough and I, as a shipmate, would know that he is undergoing through a lot of trouble. I wouldn't question his orders because I know that he's in contact with the gods. The lotus eaters were orientated towards making the crew members forget about their homeland by offering them sweet lotus flowers, but they resisted. The lotus flowers represent the idea of forgetting about all the struggles in life and just divulging in all sweet things. Although it may be a tempting path, Odysseus and his men pull through and resist the flowers which teaches young children to face their troubles head on.

In this episode Odysseus shows that he is clever with language when he is with Polyphemus the cyclops, he tells the cyclops his name is 'nobody' so when he stabs the cyclops in the eye and the cyclops is wailing, when the other i guess cyclops come to ask him who did this to him he says "nobody!, nobody did this to me!" refering to Odysseus as nobody because that's what he thinks his name is and the other cyclops think he literally means no one did anything to him because he says nobody.
