Odysseus is disguised as a beggar before announcing his arrival at Ithaca. The point of his disguise is to find out whether people are still loyal. The only one who recognizes Odysseus, is Odysseus dog, Argos. Argos has being mistreated and abandoned. Argos tries to use his last minutes of life to waggle his tail to his master. Argos symbolizes faithfulness and loyalty because even though Odysseus went missing for o long, he still got recognized by his loving dog even when he was in disguised. Argos is lying at the gate, representing himself guarding, regardless his condition. Eurmanus says that slaves take advantage when the master is away.
