Poseidon
Poseidon is the god of the sea and the brother of Zeus, Hades, Hera, Hestia and Demeter. Although he cannot kill Odysseus, because he's destiny is to get home, he makes every effort to make Odysseus suffer. Odysseus earned poseidon's anger by blinding Polyphemus. As Odysseus was the leaving the island of the Cyclops behind, he mocked and talked down on Polyphemus and accused him of being impious. Polyphemus exclaimed that he was the son of Poseidon. Odysseus didn't believe him so Polyphemus called upon his father commanding that Odysseus never reach home. Athena Daughter of Zeus and goddess of wisdom, purposeful battle, and the art crafts. Athena assists Odysseus and Telemachus with divine powers throughout the epic, and she speaks up for them in the councils of the gods on mount Olympus. She often appears in disguise as mentor, and old friend of Odysseus. Her tree is an Olive and her animal is an owl. Apollo The twin brother of Artemis. Apollo is the god of prophency, healing, and the arts. He was not originally a sun god. He is also the god of archery. Apollo is always depicted as a young man without beard and his portraits present the Greek ideal of youth an manly beauty Hades Lord of the underworld, both the Elysian fields and Tartarus/Hell. He was also god of wealth, of the precious metals and stones found within the Earth. His wife is Persephone. He also possess a helmet that makes him become invisible. He rarely left the underworld. Odysseus sees him and Persephone ruling from their throws as he roams the underworld greeting figures he knows. |
