Odysseus goes to meet with the blind prophet Teiresias. He takes a few men off the ship with him to carry his sacrifices he has prepared for Teiresias. He takes milk, honey, wine, and crystal clear water. Odysseus himself carries a ram. The Land of the Dead seems to be represented as a pit were many spirits fly. What Odysseus gets surprised before he even got the chance to talk to Teiresias, were the spirits of his mother, Anticlea, and a friend, Elpenor. Odysseus had no clue that his own mother had passed away. She tells him that Penelope is still loyal, Odysseus son is getting revenge and that she, herself, died from loneliness. Elpenor requests to Odysseus that after leaving the Land of Dead, to give his body a proper burial. Teiresias drinks Odysseus blood and then speaks. Teiresias warns Odysseus to not eat Helios's cattle at Thrinaka, an then announces that he will return home alone. Odysseus will kill all the suitors in Ithaca that are after Odysseus's wife and to built a monument to honor Poseidon. Odysseus sees a lot of familiar faces that get a chance to talk to Odysseus before he marches off.
